Roatan Info

Roatan
Roatan, the largest of the Bay Islands is located in the Western Caribbean Sea and lies 35 miles off the North Coast of Honduras along the Bonacca Ridge. This submerged mountain ridge is also the world's second largest barrier reef, home to a diversity of aquatic life and world class scuba diving.

The island is approximately 34 miles long and varies in width from one to six miles. It has lush tropical jungle-covered hills, pristine white sandy beaches, clear turquoise waters, unique cultures and authentic Caribbean charm.

The climate is tropical with a rainy season from mid-October to late November. Temperatures range from 72 – 88 Fahrenheit. The water temperatures fluctuate from a cool 79 to a comfortable 86 Fahrenheit.

Roatan is easily accessible from the United States with direct flights from Houston and Miami with TACA and Continental airlines. Both flights are approximately two hours, making it one of the closest islands of the Caribbean. In addition, American, Continental, TACA and IBERIA airlines all fly into the mainland Honduran city of San Pedro Sula with a short connecting flight to the island.

Things to do
Do as little or as much as you want. Close to the world's second largest barrier reef and home to a diversity of aquatic life and an impressive variety of corals and sponges, make the surrounding waters a snorkeling and scuba diving paradise. Other water sports include deep sea fishing, sailing, glass bottom boat, dolphin encounters, kayaking, windsurfing and para-sailing. Why not be really audacious and experience a submarine ride down to 1500ft, Roatan is the only place in the world where you can do this.

If relaxation is what you had in mind, a masseuse can be provided on request or bookings can be made at the spa, a few minutes stroll down the beach, for those extra special treatments.
